Conservation. Stewardship. Education.

Preserving heritage breeds, caring for the land, and sharing knowledge that keeps them thriving.

Meet the Farmer: Kellie

I grew up on family farms in Tennessee, where animals were always a major part of my life. Horses were my first passion, and for a long time I dreamed of pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. My life eventually took me in a different direction, but my love for animals and agriculture never went away.

In 2023, I moved to Oklahoma with my husband, and we purchased a small acreage. Not long after that, I started raising chickens. I did not begin with a plan to build a conservation farm. I simply wanted chickens.

Thanks to my chicken egg allergy, I eventually added Muscovy ducks to the farm, which led to geese. By that point, I had shifted from “backyard chicken lady” to “breeder.” The more I learned about poultry, breeding, genetics, and the history behind different breeds, the more invested I became.

I began learning how many traditional livestock breeds are now rare or endangered. Many of them are not disappearing because they no longer have value. They are disappearing because fewer people know about them, raise them, or understand why they matter. Once I became aware of that, I could not stop caring about it.

That growing passion became JK Homegrown.
