JK Homegrown Pomeranian Goose Stewardship and Return Policy

Last updated: August 30, 2026

Purpose

JK Homegrown raises Pomeranian geese as part of a long-term conservation breeding program. Every bird represents genetics that may remain valuable to the breed even when the bird no longer fits its current owner's flock, breeding plans, or circumstances.

This policy creates a pathway for communication, voluntary return, and responsible placement so those genetics are not unnecessarily lost, abandoned, or dispersed without context.

Birds Covered by This Policy

This policy applies to:

- Any Pomeranian goose purchased or otherwise obtained directly from JK Homegrown.

- Any descendant of a Pomeranian goose produced by JK Homegrown, regardless of how many generations have passed or whether the descendant is currently owned by the original buyer.

Other poultry and livestock are governed by JK Homegrown's general and species-specific policies.

Good-Faith Stewardship, Not Continuing Ownership

Once a Pomeranian goose is sold or transferred, JK Homegrown does not retain an ownership interest in the bird. This policy does not give JK Homegrown a right to control the owner's breeding, management, sale, or placement decisions, and it does not create a right to reclaim or repossess a bird.

This is a good-faith conservation and stewardship commitment rather than a legally binding ownership agreement. Its purpose is to keep communication open and provide a responsible pathway when a bird or its descendants need a new placement.

Contact JK Homegrown First

Before selling, auctioning, surrendering, dispersing, giving away, or otherwise rehoming a covered Pomeranian goose, the current owner is asked to contact JK Homegrown first.

First contact gives JK Homegrown an opportunity to understand the circumstances, consider the bird's genetics and history, and discuss whether voluntary return or placement with another appropriate keeper would best support the bird and the conservation program.

Contacting JK Homegrown does not require the owner to surrender the bird and does not guarantee that JK Homegrown can accept the bird.

Available Stewardship Pathways

Depending on the bird, the circumstances, available space, biosecurity considerations, and transportation, JK Homegrown may offer one of two pathways:

1. Voluntary surrender to JK Homegrown. The current owner may voluntarily transfer the bird to JK Homegrown if JK Homegrown is able to accept it.

2. Placement assistance. JK Homegrown may help identify or evaluate another breeder, conservation flock, or responsible keeper who may be able to accept the bird.

Placement assistance is not a guarantee that a new home will be available or that a placement can be completed within a particular timeframe.

Voluntary Surrender and Compensation

A return to JK Homegrown is a voluntary surrender, not a guaranteed buyback.

The current owner should not expect compensation for a voluntarily surrendered bird. Any compensation offered by JK Homegrown is solely at JK Homegrown's discretion and will be determined case by case.

When JK Homegrown assists with placement to a third party, any sale price, payment, or other compensation is negotiated directly between the current owner and the prospective new owner. JK Homegrown's placement assistance does not make JK Homegrown a party to that transaction.

Transportation

Transportation arrangements are determined case by case according to distance, timing, the bird's condition, available assistance, and the proposed destination.

When JK Homegrown agrees to take a bird back and personally arranges pickup, JK Homegrown absorbs its own pickup transportation costs. For birds located within approximately eight hours of JK Homegrown, JK Homegrown will make reasonable efforts to assist with transportation when practical. This is not a guarantee that JK Homegrown will always be able to retrieve the bird personally.

For birds located farther away, the current owner may be asked to assist with transportation, deliver the bird part of the distance, or meet halfway when practical.

If a third-party transporter is needed, the transportation arrangements and any related costs must be agreed upon separately by the people involved.

Quarantine and Flock Reintegration

A bird returning to JK Homegrown must complete an appropriate quarantine before any possible contact with the resident flock.

Acceptance of a voluntarily surrendered bird does not guarantee immediate or eventual integration into a JK Homegrown breeding group. Future placement, breeding use, and flock integration will depend on the bird's health, condition, temperament, genetics, and JK Homegrown's program needs after quarantine and evaluation.

Relationship to the General Poultry Return Rule

JK Homegrown's general policy does not allow poultry to return to the farm after departure because of biosecurity. This Pomeranian goose policy is a limited conservation-stewardship exception with its own communication, quarantine, transportation, and acceptance process.

A Pomeranian goose must not be brought back to the farm or left on the property without prior communication and express acceptance by JK Homegrown.

Stewardship Commitment

JK Homegrown asks every keeper of a covered Pomeranian goose to preserve the opportunity for responsible communication before the bird or its descendants leave their care. The goal is not to control future owners. The goal is to prevent valuable breed genetics from being lost when return, conservation placement, or breeder-to-breeder cooperation may offer a better path.
